Scale
Filling
- 1 package cream cheese (8 oz)
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Wontons and Coating
- Wonton wrappers (about 24 wrappers)
- 1 egg, beaten
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the wontons to ensure even cooking.
- Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, finely chopped green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are fully incorporated into a smooth mixture.
- Prepare wonton wrappers: Lay a single wonton wrapper flat on a clean working surface, ready for filling.
- Add filling to wrapper: Place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of the wonton wrapper, being careful not to overfill.
- Seal the edges: Dip your finger in the beaten egg and lightly brush the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle shape and press firmly along the edges to seal completely, preventing filling from leaking out during cooking.
- Repeat for remaining wontons: Continue filling and sealing the rest of the wrappers with the cream cheese mixture until all filling is used.
- Prepare air fryer basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange wontons: Place the sealed wontons in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, making sure they do not touch for even crisping.
- Add cooking spray on tops: Lightly spray the tops of the arranged wontons with cooking spray to help them achieve a golden, crispy finish.
- Air fry the wontons: Cook the wontons in the air fryer for 6-8 minutes per batch until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Serve and enjoy: Carefully remove the crispy cream cheese wontons from the air fryer and serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce for an irresistible snack or appetizer.
Notes
- You can substitute soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option.
- If you prefer a spicier filling, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the cream cheese mixture.
- Ensure wontons are not overcrowded during air frying to allow even cooking and crispiness.
- Use a non-stick cooking spray to avoid sticking without excess oil.
- Leftover cooked wontons can be refrigerated in an airtight container and reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
