Scale
Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sugar or honey (optional)
Main Ingredients
- 8 ounces lo mein noodles (or spaghetti substitute)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or neutral oil like canola)
- 1/2 pound beef (flank steak, sirloin, or skirt steak), thinly sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/4 cup sliced onion or green onions
Garnish
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Instructions
- Prepare the Noodles: Cook the lo mein noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, tossing with a little sesame oil to prevent sticking.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, rice vinegar (if using), and sugar or honey until smooth. Set aside.
- Cook the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same pan, add a small amount of oil if needed. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced onions or green onions. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Then add the broccoli florets and continue to stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and crisp-tender. - Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the beef to the pan with the vegetables. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir everything together, cooking for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and the beef is cooked through.
- Add Noodles: Add the cooked noodles to the pan and toss well to coat everything evenly with the sauce.
- Serve: Remove from heat. Garnish with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein!
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with firm tofu or extra vegetables like mushrooms and bell peppers.
- Use low sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content.
- If lo mein noodles are unavailable, spaghetti or other egg noodles can be used as substitutes.
- To add heat, include chili flakes or a few drops of chili oil when stir-frying.
- Ensure the cornstarch is fully dissolved in the sauce to avoid lumps.
