Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry and Toppings
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)
Cream Cheese Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Make Cream Cheese Filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until the filling is smooth and creamy.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut it into 4 equal squares to form each pastry pocket.
- Assemble Pastries: Place about one tablespoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of each puff pastry square. Top the filling with a few fresh blueberries.
- Seal Pastries: Fold the corners of each square inward towards the center to create a pocket. Press the edges firmly to seal the filling inside and prevent leakage while baking.
- Apply Egg Wash and Sugar: Beat the egg and brush it over the surface of each pastry to give them a beautiful golden finish. Sprinkle each pastry lightly with sugar for added sweetness and a slight crunch.
- Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastries have puffed up and turned golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving to let the filling set and to avoid burns.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry remains cold before baking to help achieve better puffiness.
- You can substitute blueberries with other fresh berries like raspberries or sliced strawberries.
- For a vegan version, use vegan cream cheese and an egg substitute for the wash.
- These pastries are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 day.
