Description

This Cherry Vanilla Soda recipe offers a delightful homemade soda experience, combining fresh cherries and pure vanilla extract to create a sweet, flavorful syrup that pairs perfectly with fizzy soda water for a refreshing drink.

Ingredients

Scale

Syrup Ingredients

  • 12 cherries (halved & pitted)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

To Serve

  • Soda water
  • Ice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cherries: Cut the cherries in half and remove the pits. Add them to a small saucepan on medium heat along with the water, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  2. Mash the cherries: Once the mixture has been bubbling for about 5 minutes, mash the cherries using a potato masher or similar tool to release more flavor.
  3. Simmer the syrup: Continue simmering the mixture on medium heat for another 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the syrup to thicken slightly.
  4. Cool and strain: Remove the pan from heat and let it cool for 15 minutes. Then strain the mixture through a sieve into a jar, removing solids for a smooth syrup.
  5. Serve the soda: Chill the syrup further if desired. To serve, add some syrup to a glass filled with ice and top with soda water. Store any leftover syrup in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • Use ripe cherries for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  • The syrup can be adjusted by adding more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
  • Store the syrup in a sealed container in the fridge to maintain freshness.
  • Feel free to experiment with sparkling mineral water for varied carbonation levels.
