Description

Celebrate love with this delightful Chocolate Valentine Surprise Cake featuring a hidden heart-shaped strawberry cake center, covered in chocolate cake and topped with strawberry frosting and heart sprinkles. Perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion that calls for a sweet surprise.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Mixes

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 box strawberry cake mix

Frosting and Decorations

  • 1 can strawberry icing
  • Heart-shaped sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberry Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the strawberry cake mix according to the package instructions. Grease a loaf pan and pour in the batter. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely. Once cooled, remove the cake from the pan and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap.
  2. Cut Heart Shapes: Chill the wrapped strawberry cake in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm it up. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes from the chilled cake slices. Set aside the heart cutouts.
  3. Prepare Chocolate Cake Batter: Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package directions. Grease a baking pan. Pour enough chocolate cake batter into the bottom of the pan to just cover the surface.
  4. Assemble Cake with Heart Centers: Arrange the strawberry cake heart cutouts tightly together on top of the chocolate batter layer. Pour the remaining chocolate cake batter over the heart shapes, making sure they are completely covered.
  5. Bake the Assembled Cake: Bake the cake at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  6. Decorate the Cake: Frost the top of the cooled cake using the strawberry icing. Use some frosting to add hearts to the sides of the cake as well. Finally, sprinkle heart-shaped sprinkles on top for a festive finish. Slice and serve to reveal a charming strawberry heart inside each piece.

Notes

  • Make sure the strawberry cake is completely cooled before cutting to prevent crumbling.
  • Chilling the cake before cutting helps in getting clean heart shapes.
  • Use a pan size recommended on the cake mix boxes or similar loaf and cake pans.
  • You can substitute homemade strawberry and chocolate cake recipes if preferred.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
