Description
Churros Poppers are delightful bite-sized treats featuring crispy golden dough fried to perfection and coated in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, making a perfect sweet snack or dessert inspired by traditional Mexican churros.
Ingredients
Scale
Churro Dough
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frying and Coating
- Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter and bring to a boil over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, reduce heat to low and add the flour all at once, stirring constantly until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
- Incorporate egg and vanilla: Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated and the dough is smooth and shiny.
- Heat oil for frying: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C), ensuring the oil temperature stays consistent for even cooking.
- Pipe and fry churro poppers: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe 1-inch pieces of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors. Fry in batches for 2 to 3 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and coat: Remove churro poppers with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Mix the remaining granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl, then roll the warm churro poppers in the mixture until fully coated.
- Serve: Serve warm, optionally with chocolate sauce or caramel for dipping.
Notes
- Serve the churro poppers warm to enjoy their crispy texture.
- Consider providing chocolate sauce or caramel dips for extra indulgence.
- Maintain consistent oil temperature to ensure even frying and avoid soggy or burnt poppers.
- Use a star tip for the piping bag to get the traditional ridged texture on the churros.
