Description

Delight in these homemade Cinnamon Sugar Belgian Waffles, topped with a luscious mix of fresh berries and a hint of maple syrup. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or brunch, these waffles have a crispy exterior with a soft, fluffy interior, enhanced by the warm flavors of cinnamon and sugar.

Ingredients

Scale

Waffle Batter

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons Cinnamon Sugar Crumb Cake Mix (from packet 2)
  • 1 package Cinnamon Sugar Crumb Cake Mix (divided into packets 1 and 2)
  • 1¼ cups 2% milk
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ¼ cup butter, melted

Toppings

  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries (blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and/or strawberries)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened ½ cup butter with 2 tablespoons of the Cinnamon Sugar Crumb Cake Mix from packet 2 until smooth. Gradually add the 1¼ cups of 2% milk and beaten eggs to the mixture. Stir in the remaining Cinnamon Sugar Crumb Cake Mix from packet 1 to form a smooth batter. Finally, fold in the ¼ cup melted butter to enrich the batter.
  2. Preheat the waffle iron: Turn on the waffle iron and allow it to heat up fully according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure your waffles cook evenly and develop a crispy crust.
  3. Cook the waffles: Lightly grease the waffle iron if needed. Pour enough batter onto the waffle iron to just cover the waffle grid. Close the lid and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and cooked through. Carefully remove and repeat with the remaining batter.
  4. Serve: Place the cooked waffles on plates, top with 2 cups of assorted fresh berries, and drizzle with 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup for a sweet and fruity finish. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and keep cooked waffles warm on a rack in the oven.
  • Use fresh seasonal berries for optimal flavor and texture.
  • If you prefer, substitute butter with a dairy-free alternative to make this recipe lactose-free.
  • Adding a pinch of salt to the batter can enhance the flavor.
  • Waffles can be frozen and reheated in a toaster for quick breakfasts.
