Ingredients
Scale
Frosting Ingredients
- 8 oz package of Cream Cheese, softened (1-2 hours at room temperature)
- 14 oz Dulce de Leche (homemade by cooking a can of sweetened condensed milk)
- 16 oz tub of Cool Whip, thawed (in the fridge or on the counter)
Instructions
- Prepare Dulce de Leche: Boil the can of sweetened condensed milk ahead of time using the crock-pot method by cooking it on high for 4 hours. Ensure the can is fully submerged in water during cooking.
- Cool the Dulce de Leche: After cooking, carefully cool the can in ice water or place it in the refrigerator until ready to use. The condensed milk will have transformed into a caramel-colored dulce de leche.
- Mix Cream Cheese: Using a stand mixer with paddle attachment or a hand mixer, beat the softened cream cheese on high speed until it becomes light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Dulce de Leche and Cool Whip: Add the dulce de leche and Cool Whip to the cream cheese. Beat on medium-high speed for approximately 6-7 minutes until the mixture is light, fluffy, and well combined. Be careful not to over-mix.
- Frost and Serve: Spread the frosting over your cake or cupcakes evenly. Enjoy this rich, fluffy, and caramel-flavored frosting as a delicious finishing touch to your baked goods.
Notes
- Make sure the cream cheese is softened properly to avoid lumps in the frosting.
- Do not open the can of sweetened condensed milk before or during boiling to prevent accidents.
- The crock-pot method for making dulce de leche offers a safer and hands-off approach compared to stove-top simmering.
- Thaw Cool Whip completely for best texture and ease of mixing.
- This frosting works best when used immediately but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Let it come to room temperature and stir lightly before using again.
- Not recommended for diabetics due to high sugar content.
