Ingredients
Scale
Halloumi and Wraps
- 250g halloumi cheese, sliced
- 4 soft tortilla wraps or flatbreads
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Vegetables
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small cucumber, sliced into thin ribbons
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- A handful of lettuce leaves
Garlic Yogurt Sauce
- 4 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Additional Toppings
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- Fresh mint leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Garlic Yogurt Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the plain Greek yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and set aside to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Fry the Halloumi: Heat the olive oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Add the halloumi slices and fry for 2–3 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and develop a crispy exterior.
- Warm the Wraps: Warm the tortillas or flatbreads in a dry pan or microwave until soft and pliable, making them easier to roll.
- Assemble the Wraps: Spread a spoonful of the garlic yogurt sauce evenly over each warm wrap. Layer with lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, cucumber ribbons, red onion, and the crispy fried halloumi slices.
- Add Toppings: Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the fillings, and add fresh mint leaves if desired for an herbal freshness.
- Fold and Serve: Fold the wraps carefully and serve immediately while the halloumi is still hot and crisp, ensuring the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Use a nonstick pan to prevent the halloumi from sticking and to achieve a nice golden crust.
- If preferred, substitute the sweet chili sauce with a spicy harissa or a mild tzatziki for different flavor profiles.
- To save time, prepare the garlic yogurt sauce ahead and refrigerate before assembling.
- Fresh mint is optional but adds a bright, refreshing note that complements the richness of the cheese.
- For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free wraps instead of tortillas.
