Description

This Cuban Turkey Sandwich is a delicious twist on the classic Cuban sandwich, featuring thinly sliced turkey breast combined with Swiss cheese, ham, tangy dill pickles, and yellow mustard, all pressed to golden, crispy perfection. Ready in just 18 minutes, it’s a perfect option for a satisfying and quick lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Spread

  • 4 slices Cuban bread (or French/Italian loaf, about 6 inches each)
  • 2 teaspoons butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard

Meats and Cheese

  • 6 oz (170g) thinly sliced turkey breast
  • 2 oz (56g) thinly sliced ham (optional)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

Extras

  • 1/4 cup (60g) dill pickles, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread: Slice your Cuban bread lengthwise and lightly butter the outside of each slice. This helps create a golden, crispy crust when pressed.
  2. Layer it up: Spread yellow mustard evenly on the inside of both slices of bread. Then layer the thinly sliced turkey breast, followed by the ham (if using), Swiss cheese slices, and the thinly sliced dill pickles for that classic tangy crunch.
  3. Press to impress: Close the sandwich and press it using a sandwich press or a heavy skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese has melted thoroughly.
  4. Slice and serve: Once cooked, cut the sandwich diagonally and serve immediately while it’s hot and crispy for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • If Cuban bread is unavailable, substitute with French or Italian loaf for a similar texture.
  • The ham is optional but adds authentic flavor; omit for a leaner sandwich.
  • Use softened butter to ensure even spreading and crispiness on the bread’s exterior.
  • A sandwich press works best for even cooking, but a heavy skillet with a weight on top can be used as an alternative.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the sandwich at its crispiest and meltiest.
