These patties are pan-fried to golden perfection and served with cooling raita, tomato slices, and mango & chili chutney for a deliciously satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 280g firm tofu
  • 1/4 red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • 2 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1.5 tsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp nigella seeds
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
  • 4 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tbsp oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp Geeta’s Mango & Chilli Chutney
  • Tomato slices (from approximately 1 medium tomato)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 2-4 tbsp raita

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu mixture: Blend the firm tofu in a food processor until it has a coarse, ground meat-like texture. This forms the base of your patties.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the blended tofu with finely chopped red onion, grated garlic and ginger, garam masala, paprika, curry powder, chili powder, nigella seeds, tomato puree, chopped fresh coriander, and plain flour. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Form patties: Shape the resulting mixture into 4 evenly sized burger patties, making sure they hold together firmly.
  4. Cook the patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan over low to medium heat. Place the patties in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until they are browned and heated through.
  5. Assemble the burgers: Spread 2 to 4 tablespoons of raita onto the burger buns, layer the cooked tofu patties on top, add fresh tomato slices, and finish with a dollop of Geeta’s Mango & Chilli Chutney. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Ensure tofu is well pressed before blending to remove excess moisture for better patties.
  • Adjust the chili powder according to your heat preference.
  • You can substitute the plain flour with gluten-free flour if desired.
  • For a crispier texture, chill patties before frying.
  • Use fresh coriander for best flavor, but dried can substitute in a pinch at half the quantity.
  • Raita adds a cooling element to balance the spices; you can also use yogurt mixed with cucumber and mint.
