Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Seasoning
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup water
Vegetables and Toppings
- 6 cups chopped romaine lettuce
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 1/2 cup diced red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
Dairy
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Others
- 1 cup crushed Doritos chips
- 1/4 cup salsa
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon for even cooking. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Season the meat: Stir in the taco seasoning packet and 1/4 cup water with the beef. Simmer the mixture for 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat well.
- Prepare the salad base: In a large salad bowl, combine chopped romaine lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced black olives, and diced red onion. Toss gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Add taco meat: Spoon the cooked taco seasoned meat onto the salad mixture, then gently toss again to distribute the meat throughout the salad.
- Top and garnish: Just before serving, sprinkle crushed Doritos chips evenly on top to maintain crunchiness. Drizzle with sour cream and salsa, then garnish with chopped fresh cilantro if using.
- Serve immediately: Serve the taco salad right away to enjoy the fresh flavors and crispy texture of the Doritos chips.
Notes
- For extra flavor and texture, consider adding black beans, corn, or diced avocado to the salad.
- Assemble the salad just before serving to keep the Doritos chips crunchy.
- Leftover taco meat can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and added to other dishes.
