Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 box (3.4 ounce) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Donuts
- 1 package (8-count) Pillsbury Grands biscuit dough (not flaky layers variety)
- Vegetable oil for deep frying (enough for 2 inches depth)
Chocolate Frosting
- 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 ounces dark chocolate
- 2 ounces milk chocolate
- 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the cream filling: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup milk and instant vanilla pudding mix until smooth. Set aside to thicken. In a separate bowl, beat 1 cup heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then gently fold in the pudding mixture. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Fry the donuts: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer to 350°F. Separate the biscuit dough and carefully place a few pieces into the hot oil. Fry each side for about 3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on a cooling rack or paper towels. Repeat with remaining dough in small batches.
- Make the chocolate frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 2 tablespoons milk, 2 tablespoons heavy cream, and 2 tablespoons butter. Stir frequently until mixture bubbles. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, corn syrup, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate. Let sit for a few minutes to melt, then whisk until smooth. Gradually whisk in powdered sugar, reheating gently if necessary, until the frosting is lump-free and glossy.
- Fill the donuts: Use a skewer or chopstick to create a hole from one end of each donut toward the center. Fill a piping bag or condiment bottle with the cream filling and inject it into the donuts, filling as much as possible without bursting through the other side.
- Dip and set the frosting: Dip the top of each cooled, filled donut into the warm chocolate frosting. Place on a wire rack and allow the frosting to set before serving.
- Serve: Enjoy the donuts fresh for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure donuts are fully cooled before filling to prevent melting the cream.
- Use a thermometer to maintain the frying oil temperature at 350°F for best results.
- If frosting is too thick, gently rewarm while whisking to smooth out.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
