Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 8 slices thick bread (brioche or Texas toast recommended)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Butter or neutral oil, for cooking
Coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
To Serve (Optional)
- Chocolate sauce
- Caramel sauce
- Whipped cream
Instructions
- Preheat the skillet. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or neutral oil, preparing for cooking the French toast bites.
- Mix custard batter. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and 1/4 cup granulated sugar until fully combined.
- Cut bread into hearts. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or a sharp knife to cut each bread slice into heart shapes for a fun presentation.
- Dip bread in batter. Fully coat each heart-shaped bread piece by dipping it into the prepared egg mixture.
- Cook the bites. Place the dipped bread pieces onto the hot skillet or griddle and cook until golden brown on the bottom, about 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown as well.
- Prepare churro coating. While the French toast bites are cooking, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
- Coat bites in cinnamon sugar. Once the French toast bites are cooked and still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until they are fully coated, mimicking churro flavor.
- Serve. Arrange the churro bites on a serving plate and offer chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and whipped cream on the side for dipping or topping as desired. Enjoy your sweet, crunchy, and tender French Toast Churro Bites!
Notes
- Use thick bread like brioche or Texas toast for the best texture and absorption.
- Make sure the skillet is properly preheated to get a perfect golden crust without burning.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond or oat milk and use oil instead of butter.
- Serve immediately after coating for maximum crispness.
- Leftovers can be reheated in a skillet to maintain their texture but are best enjoyed fresh.
