- 1 lb tomatoes (3-4 medium), diced
- 1/2 medium onion (1 cup chopped)
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely minced (optional)
- 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
Other Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp lime juice (from 1 lime)
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/8 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, add the diced tomatoes, chopped onion, finely minced jalapeno, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to blend all flavors evenly.
- Refrigerate: Transfer the pico de gallo mixture to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Let it chill to allow flavors to meld, and consume within 5 days for best freshness.
Notes
- Pico de Gallo can be made spicier by leaving the jalapeno seeds or adding more jalapeno.
- For milder flavor, omit jalapeno entirely.
- Using fresh lime juice is important for the bright, tangy flavor.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to taste preferences.
- Serve as a topping for tacos, grilled meats, or as a fresh dip with chips.
