Description

A fresh, zesty Mexican salsa made from diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and seasonings. Perfect as a topping, dip, or side dish, Pico de Gallo is easy to prepare and adds vibrant flavor to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 1 lb tomatoes (3-4 medium), diced
  • 1/2 medium onion (1 cup chopped)
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely minced (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped

Other Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp lime juice (from 1 lime)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, add the diced tomatoes, chopped onion, finely minced jalapeno, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to blend all flavors evenly.
  2. Refrigerate: Transfer the pico de gallo mixture to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. Let it chill to allow flavors to meld, and consume within 5 days for best freshness.

Notes

  • Pico de Gallo can be made spicier by leaving the jalapeno seeds or adding more jalapeno.
  • For milder flavor, omit jalapeno entirely.
  • Using fresh lime juice is important for the bright, tangy flavor.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to taste preferences.
  • Serve as a topping for tacos, grilled meats, or as a fresh dip with chips.
