Ingredients
Scale
Green Bean Mixture
- 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) cut green beans, drained
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup French fried onions
Topping
- 1 bag (32 ounces) frozen tater tots
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup French fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to ensure it’s ready for baking the casserole.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, whole milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and half of the French fried onions. Stir the mixture well until fully incorporated.
- Assemble Casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread the green bean mixture evenly in the dish. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the mixture.
- Bake Initial Layer: Place the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the tater tots to begin cooking.
- Add Toppings: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese and the rest of the French fried onions evenly over the top.
- Final Bake: Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the onions turn golden and crispy.
- Rest and Serve: Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes after baking to set slightly before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add 1 cup cooked bacon pieces or sautéed mushrooms to the green bean mixture before baking.
- You can substitute cream of chicken soup for a richer taste if preferred.
- To achieve crispier tater tots, bake them separately for 15 minutes before topping the casserole.
