Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice (long grain, medium grain, short grain, Jasmine, or Basmati)
- 1.5 cups water
Instructions
- Combine Rice and Water: Place 1.5 cups of water and 1 cup of rice in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Bring to Simmer: Heat until the entire surface of the water is rippling with gentle simmering bubbles.
- Cover and Reduce Heat: Place a tight-fitting lid on the pot, then reduce the heat to medium-low or low on stronger stoves so the rice simmers gently without boiling vigorously.
- Cook Without Disturbing: Let the rice cook for 13 minutes without stirring or lifting the lid, allowing the water to be fully absorbed.
- Check Water Absorption: Quickly tilt the pot and lift the lid to check that all water has been absorbed.
- Rest the Rice: Put the lid back on, remove the pot from heat, and let the rice rest and steam for 10 minutes.
- Fluff and Serve: Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
Notes
- Do not stir the rice while cooking to prevent it from becoming gummy.
- Use a tight-fitting lid to trap steam for even cooking.
- Adjust water slightly depending on rice type; some may require less or more.
- Letting rice rest off heat ensures moisture is evenly distributed and grains separate.
- This basic method can be adapted with seasonings or broth for more flavor.
