Description

This Parmesan Peppercorn Cheese Ball is a creamy, flavorful appetizer combining cream cheese with sharp cheddar and Parmesan, enhanced by fresh herbs and cracked black pepper. Rolled in peppercorns and optional pecans, it offers a delightful mix of textures and a zesty kick, perfect for parties or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 2 tsp cracked black pepper

Coating

  • Additional cracked black pepper, for rolling
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional, for rolling)
  • Extra chopped parsley and chives (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Ball Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, grated sharp cheddar cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  2. Add Fresh Herbs and Pepper: Stir in the chopped fresh parsley, chopped chives, and cracked black pepper to distribute evenly throughout the cheese mixture.
  3. Form the Cheese Ball: Using clean hands, shape the cheese mixture into a ball. If the mixture feels too sticky to handle, refrigerate it for about 30 minutes to firm up before shaping.
  4. Roll in Coatings: Spread additional cracked black pepper on a large plate. Roll the cheese ball in the pepper to coat its surface, pressing lightly to help it stick. If desired, roll the cheese ball in chopped pecans for added texture and flavor. Optionally, sprinkle extra chopped parsley and chives over the coated cheese ball for garnish.
  5. Chill: Place the cheese ball in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour. This allows the flavors to meld and helps the ball firm up for easier serving.
  6. Serve: Before serving, allow the cheese ball to sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes to soften slightly. Serve with an assortment of crackers, fresh vegetable slices, or crusty bread for an appealing appetizer.

Notes

  • For a firmer cheese ball, chill the mixture before shaping and chill again after coating.
  • The pecans are optional but add a nice crunch and nutty flavor.
  • Can be prepared a day ahead and kept refrigerated tightly covered.
  • Use fresh cracked black pepper for best flavor and texture.
  • Bring to room temperature before serving to enhance creaminess and flavor.
