Description

Crispy and flavorful Shrimp Toast featuring a savory shrimp paste spread over toasted bread triangles, fried to golden perfection. This appetizer combines fresh shrimp, aromatic ginger, garlic, and green onions, making it a delicious and popular snack or party dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp Paste

  • 8 oz raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 egg white

Bread

  • 4 slices white bread, crusts removed

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp paste: In a food processor, combine the shrimp, green onions, garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and egg white. Pulse until a coarse paste forms, ensuring the mixture is well blended but still has some texture.
  2. Spread the shrimp mixture: Evenly spread the shrimp paste over one side of each slice of white bread.
  3. Cut into triangles: Cut each bread slice into 4 equal triangles, making 16 triangles in total.
  4. Heat the oil: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat to about 350°F (175°C), enough to shallow fry.
  5. Fry the shrimp toast: Carefully place the triangles shrimp-side down into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden and crisp, then flip and cook the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Drain excess oil: Remove the shrimp toast from the skillet and place on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Serve: Serve the shrimp toast warm with sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure not to over-process the shrimp paste; keep some texture for best taste.
  • Maintain oil temperature to ensure crispy toast without absorbing too much oil.
  • Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor and texture.
  • Can be served as an appetizer or party snack.
  • Adjust seasoning in the shrimp paste as per your taste preference.
