Description

This classic Waldorf Salad combines crisp apples, juicy grapes, crunchy celery, and toasted walnuts with a creamy, slightly sweet mayonnaise dressing. Tossed together and chilled, it’s a refreshing and easy-to-make fruit and nut salad perfect as a light lunch or a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dressing

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Salad

  • 3 apples, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup seedless grapes, halved
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dressing: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, white sugar, and salt. Whisk together until smooth and well blended. Set aside.
  2. Core and Chop Apples: Core and chop the apples into bite-sized pieces. Immediately toss them with lemon juice in a large bowl to prevent browning and add a fresh tang.
  3. Combine Salad Ingredients: Add the halved grapes, chopped celery, chopped walnuts, and optional raisins into the bowl with the apples. Stir gently to mix evenly.
  4. Add the Dressing: Pour the prepared mayonnaise dressing over the fruit and nut mixture. Stir gently until everything is evenly coated with the dressing.
  5. Chill and Serve: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the Waldorf Salad until ready to serve. For optimal flavor and texture, serve chilled and consume within a day.

Notes

  • You can substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter variation.
  • Walnuts can be toasted beforehand to enhance their flavor.
  • To prevent the apples from browning longer, soak them briefly in salted water before tossing with lemon juice.
  • Raisins are optional; you can omit them or replace with dried cranberries for a different twist.
  • Consume the salad within 24 hours for the best freshness.
